The Security Benefits of becoming 'FreeWay Verified' !


When we first put this idea down on paper, we realised how important it would be to our members to be able to trust those they might stay with, or those they might welcome into their homes. Right from the start we decided to do what was right, rather than to do what was easy. So we implimented the sort of security that WE would expect if someone else offered a service like this to us.

We realised that what matters, is that the people who join our community have been checked out by someone trustworthy. If we could identify our members, if we knew who they were and where they lived, and they could be made accountable, the rest would take care of itself. We all know that the unsavoury types like to live 'off the grid'. They don't like their whereabouts or their real identity being known. And they wouldn't want to be exposed through a public feedback system.

By enabling OUR members to have their Identification checked and become 'FreeWay Verified' we can all feel comfortable with who we are inviting into our homes. Pre-approved clubs are those who already have a vetting system in place. Club members get to know their 'would-be' members before they are accepted into the club, and they have to be nominated or sponsored by one or more members of that club. So if you belong to a FreeWay Pre-Approved Club you will automatically receive a 'FreeWay Verified' status.

Alternatively, as a new member, you can visit a FreeWay Marshal to have your identify verified. Having your ID confirmed by a FreeWay Marshal is optional, but it is recommened, because without this, other members (Hosts) may decline your request for accomodation. When you visit one of our Marshals they will confirm that you hold a current motorcycle license, that your licence, date of birth, and an appropriate photo have all been correctly loaded in our system. They will also confim your current address. We can then update your ID status to 'FreeWay Verified'.

Now it's obvious that most of this is personal and private information, so of course none of this apart from your first name, photo, and cell phone number, will appear on our website without you chosing to make it public. The reason(s) we ask for and hold your personal information is:

  • Our Marshals need it to verify your identity  
  • Having it loaded on our system puts off the undesirables
  • Our members can obtain a real sense of security and safety
  • The police can have access to it (under warrant)


While we do recommend that you become a FreeWay Verified Member, this is optional, and can be done at a later time, so there's nothing stopping you from joining up right away. When you do decide to visit a Marshal, we can update your status at that time.
